November 17, 2011 Grades Tanking? Hating Edline? Don’t Panic… Make a Plan
If you worry about your student’s academic performance, have a history of jumping in to save the day, and/or have a love/hate relationship with Edline, this presentation is a must. The end of the first marking period is the perfect time to assess what’s working and what’s not and make a plan to empower your student to succeed in partnership with the school. Marisa Stemple, GTLD Instructional Specialist and Joan Wittan, Independent Educational Consultant will lead this discussion.
January 19, 2011 Gifted Children with Social Skill Challenges
Many gifted students face challenges related to working with others in the classroom as well as handling social interactions throughout the day. Some of these students may have been diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome or High Functioning Autism, while other may have been identified with a different education disability or no disability at all. Rich Weinfeld, Steve Silverman, Janet Price, and Jennifer Fisher will discuss the diagnosis and identification of these students as well as specific strategies that work in the classroom. Implications for IEPs, 504 plans and school placement will also be discussed.
February 16, 2011 Nutrition: Feeding Your Brain
Charles Moseley, M.D. practices Integrative Psychiatry in utilizing both standard psychiatric, as well as innovative nutritional and metabolic strategies. His background includes the practice of general medicine, research in psychopharmacology, and treatment of adolescents, including those with ADHD. Dr. Moseley is currently the principal investigator in an FDA approved long term study of the utilization of Uridine in the treatment of Autistic Spectrum Disorder. He will discuss the role of nutrient supply to the brain, with emphasis on the role of energy production and utilization.

April 19, 2011 Technology Tips and Treasures
Options and apps for technology are growing so quickly it’s often hard to figure out what will work for an individual student. Teacher Christa Gordon and MCPS technology expert Speri Silverman will help parents sort this out. Ms.Gordon is known for introducing innovative technology in her classroom through iPad, iTouch, and a variety of helpful applications. Ms. Silverman is conversant with the technology available throughout MCPS.
